A Letter to a Weary Mom

Dear Sweet Sister,

You are not alone. The days are long and hard. I get it. Believe me. The days are long but short at the same time, and all they do is repeat themselves. Every. Single. Day. I can barely keep up with the minimal, much less take care of anything more. Endless tasks and dependent children zap my energy. I never knew motherhood would leave me so drained.

On days I'm most exhausted and pulled in every direction, I'd rather neglect time with God rather than pursue him. Can you relate? I'm hoping for a better day, for life to settle down. Or sometimes, I just don't want to spend time with him. The problem is, I was made to seek him, and so were you.

“And he [God] made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us,”

Acts 17:26-27, ESV

Quiet times with the Lord are not about checking something off our lists. (Thank goodness, because the list is already long!) Quiet times are about spending time with the One who made us, knows us, and loves us. Our purpose is to seek God. That's what we were made for.

But, Oh! We need a hunger to seek him. Am I right? Though we were made to seek him, Romans 3:11 makes it clear, “No one understands; no one seeks for God.” It's true, isn't it?! Our sinful nature doesn't seek him. But you know what else? There's no condemnation for those who are in Christ, (Romans 8:1).

It's time to move forward, Sister. It's time to press on toward the goal for which God has called us to in Christ, (Philippians 3:14). Will you pray with me this week?

Let's pray for a hunger to seek God.

And watch—expectantly—as he grants us a ravenous hunger to be with him.
